Your data is yours.
Maalin holds some of the most personal things about you: health, faith, money and your daily routine. Here is the short version. The full policies, linked below, are what count.
Our promises
- Your data is yours. It lives on your phone, and a locked copy is kept with your account, so a new phone can get it back.
- Only you can read it. Your data is encrypted on your phone before it's synced. We store it locked and can't open it. Only your passkey or your recovery kit can bring it back.
- We never sell your data or use it for ads. It's shared with another company only when you turn on a feature that needs it, and we name the company first.
- You can see, export and delete everything, including what Maalin has learned about you, at any time.
- No tracking in the app. No advertising or tracking companies' code in the app. We count how the app is used without knowing who you are, you can turn that off, and anything more is your choice.

How your account protects your data
- Sign in with Apple, Google or an email link. Then create a passkey: it's what unlocks your data on a new iPhone.
- Your recovery kit is a second key, shown once, to keep on paper or in a password manager.
- Encrypted on your phone with a 256-bit key made on your phone, using Apple's own cryptography. Our server only ever holds locked records.
- A new device is announced on your other devices and by email.
- If you lose every passkey and the kit, nobody can recover your data, Maalin included. The account can only be reset to empty, after 7 days' notice on every device and by email.
- App lock with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, if you want it.
A few facts
- Synced data is stored on servers in Paris, France, in the EU, with an encrypted backup in Germany.
- Delete your account and all server data is removed within 30 days.
- Voice is turned into text on your phone, and the audio isn't kept. A meal photo is deleted once it's read.
- Maalin is for people aged 18 and over.
- Maalin gives general wellbeing guidance, not medical advice.
How we measure the app
- Apple's own App Analytics, only from people who agreed in their iPhone's settings.
- Maalin's anonymous counts of which screens are used, with no user ID, no device ID and no IP address kept. Health and faith screens count only as "a module screen". You can turn them off.
- Weekly usage trends, only if you turn them on, with noise added on your phone.
- Nothing is counted until you've answered the age question and agreed at sign-up.
On this website
- We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies.
- With your consent, Google Analytics shows us how the site is used (Analytics), and advertising tags from Google, Meta, TikTok and LinkedIn measure and show our ads (Advertising).
- Both are off until you choose. Change your choice any time from "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
- We never use what you put into the Maalin app for advertising.
