Get Maalin

Integrations

Works with what you already use.

Maalin reads what your iPhone, Apple Health and your calendars already know, so you don't type it twice. Everything connects through your iPhone. Your health data doesn't pass through anyone else's servers to reach Maalin.

Apple Health

Apple Health is the hub.

Your watch, ring, scale and food app already share with Apple Health. Maalin reads from there, keeps the source of every reading, and removes duplicates. You choose which source wins for each measure.

Maalin reads (only for the parts you switch on):

  • Sleep
  • Steps, distance and active energy
  • Workouts
  • Resting heart rate, and heart-rate variability where your device shares it
  • Cardio fitness (VO₂ max), weight and body measurements
Show 4 more
  • Nutrition from other food apps
  • State of Mind
  • Wheelchair pushes, from a watch in wheelchair mode
  • Dietary caffeine, for the "last coffee" tip At public release

Maalin saves, if you allow it: meals, water, body measurements, sleep and mood check-ins, and walks, runs and rides recorded with your iPhone.

How fresh: about hourly in the background, and fully every time you open Maalin. Apple Health can't be read while your phone is locked, so data catches up when you unlock it.

  • Readings stay as recorded. Maalin shows each Apple Health reading with its source and doesn't change it.
  • On your first day, Maalin reads up to 90 days of history, on your phone, to work out your usual sleep, steps and resting heart rate.

Your devices

Your watch, ring or scale, through Apple Health.

In the app, "Check your device" lists each brand, the app to use, the one switch to turn on there, and anything that doesn't come through. Under the list, "Data found from:" shows which sources are arriving.

Works through Apple Health: Apple Watch, Garmin, Oura, Whoop, Fitbit and Google devices (through the Google Health app, without HRV), Withings, COROS, Amazfit, Xiaomi. Workouts from apps such as Strava reach Maalin the same way.

Works partly: Huawei, Suunto and some other watches.

Doesn't work with iPhone: Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and later, Galaxy Ring, Google Pixel Watch. These makers don't connect them to iPhone.

No device: your iPhone's own step count and motion sensors, its bedtime schedule, and a 10-second morning check-in.

Coming later: direct links that fetch your data on your phone: Oura first, then Google's Health API (Fitbit, Pixel Watch), then Whoop. Where a maker needs a sign-in token swapped on a server, it passes through a relay that stores nothing; your data never does. Coming later

Food apps

Keep your food app.

If you log food in Cronometer, MyFitnessPal, MacroFactor or another app that shares with Apple Health, Maalin counts that nutrition. A meal you log in Maalin and save to Apple Health isn't counted twice.

Calendars

Your calendar, as busy time only.

Maalin reads the calendars on your iPhone, including iCloud, Google and Microsoft accounts, and uses only when each event starts and ends and whether you're busy. That's how it plans around your meetings.

  • Titles, notes, places and guests are never used for suggestions, never stored and never sent.
  • Event titles show in your plan only if you turn on "Show event titles". They never appear in widgets or notifications.
  • You choose which calendars count. Maalin never writes to your calendar.

Weather

Today's weather, from Apple Weather.

Today's date line shows the current weather. Tap it for the high, the low, the chance of rain and the next few hours. Maalin uses it to suggest a better time for outdoor plans.

  • Heat is estimated on your phone from temperature and humidity (the heat-stress measure sports medicine uses), so humid afternoons count.
  • Only the city you picked, or your approximate location if you allow it, goes to Apple, with no Maalin account or device ID.
  • Refreshed while Maalin is open, at most once an hour. No background location.

Prayer times

Prayer times, worked out on your phone.

Maalin calculates the five daily prayers on your iPhone, so they work offline and your location isn't sent to a prayer-time service. Your country's usual method and Asr school are picked for you.

  • Methods include Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, Egyptian, Karachi, ISNA, Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait, Turkey, Singapore and the Moonsighting Committee.
  • Adjust each prayer by up to 30 minutes, and choose a high-latitude rule.
  • Before release, Maalin's times are checked against published mosque timetables.

Food library

About 20,000 foods, on your phone.

The food library is part of the app, so search works offline and nothing about your meal leaves your phone. Each food keeps the numbers of one named public table, and shows its source.

Sources (credit line for each on the app's Licences page; no source endorses Maalin):

  • USDA FoodData Central (United States)
  • CoFID, the UK's Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset
  • The Swedish Food Agency's food database, which includes Somali dishes eaten in Sweden
  • Germany's BLS 4.0
  • France's CIQUAL 2025
Show 5 more
  • Finland's Fineli
  • The Swiss food composition database
  • Denmark's Frida
  • The Ethiopian Food Composition Table 2025, as a regional pack you can switch on or off
  • Somali, East African and Gulf dishes worked out by Maalin from the ingredients of typical recipes

How the Somali dishes are made: no national Somali food table exists, so Maalin works out each dish from its ingredients and their amounts in public recipes, cross-checked across several where possible. Each dish is marked as an estimate until a home-kitchen weighing confirms it.

  • Search copes with typos, other spellings and Arabic script, and finds dishes by ingredient. Your own dishes come first.

Activities

211 activities, from football to camel riding.

The activity list comes from the 2024 Compendium of Physical Activities, including its wheelchair list, with names in your language. When your device didn't record the energy, Maalin estimates it from the Compendium and your weight.

Energy is always shown as "about", with its source: your device's name or "Estimate".

Widgets, Siri, Shortcuts and Wallet

Log without opening the app.

  • Widgets: small, medium and lock screen, with log buttons that save inside the widget.
  • Siri and Shortcuts: log water, a meal, a payment, a habit, a check-in or a measurement; mark a prayer; start an activity; ask for your next action. Siri needs your phone unlocked for anything personal.
  • Control Center and the Action button: open Log in one press.
  • Live Activities: an activity in progress, and the next prayer if you turn it on. At public release
  • Apple Pay taps: set up your iPhone's own Shortcuts automation, and each tap is logged with its amount, currency and shop. Maalin never sees bank data. At public release
  • Your logs are never added to Spotlight search.

Money

Your money, in your words.

You enter what things cost, and Maalin learns the usual price at each place. Your payment list starts with the mobile-money names used where you live: EVC Plus, Zaad, Sahal and e-Dahab in Somalia, M-Pesa in Kenya.

Names only. Maalin has no connection to any bank or mobile-money service, reads no messages and never sees your balance.

What Maalin doesn't use

  • No paid health-data brokers that pass your data through their own servers.
  • No device maker's service that sends your data to Maalin's server.
  • No cloud AI, no cloud speech and no cloud photo service.
  • No advertising or analytics code from other companies in the app.

Start tomorrow with Maalin.
